Guitar maestros Albert Frost and Dan Patlansky will blow the winter blues away when they headline this year’s Dullstroom Winter Festival, taking place over the weekend of 6 to 8 July 2012.

Launched in 2011, this year will again see the bustling Mpumalanga Highveld town celebrate a festive mid-winter weekend of fly-fishing, trail running, whiskey tastings, micro-brewed beer, food markets and a host of other activities, highlighted by a couple of red hot music shows presented by Hilltop Live, NewsNow / NuusNou and FinWeek.

Dullstroom’s popular Cherry Grove central piazza plays host to the music performances on Friday and Saturday night. Albert Frost and Dan Patlansky are two of the hardest working artists in South Africa, and both literally live to play the Blues, nobly keeping this genre fresh and exciting. Frost performed at last year’s inaugural festival and is excited about his return. Patlansky recently released his acclaimed new album ’20 Stones’. These two journeymen of the music scene have both carved out distinctive solo careers and will rock, what promises to be a fun-filled weekend.

Albert and Dan will be more than ably supported by Gauteng rockers Southern Gypsey Queen (SGQ to their many fans) and relative newcomers The Black Cat Bones. Also on the bill will be highly touted young Johannesburg-based singer Kate Borthwick.

Fly-fisherman can also look forward to the Dullstroom One Fly Anti-Rhino Poaching Charity Fly-fishing competition presented by De Wit Motors. This competition will run over two sessions at Walkersons Hotel and Spa with unrestricted access to all the Walkersons dams on Saturday 7 July. First prize is an all-inclusive 3 night Tiger-fishing break on Pongola Dam guided by Jonathan Boulton. Profits from this event will be donated to the units on the front line of the battle against poaching in the Kruger National Park. Various entry options are available, but limited to 50 anglers only. Packages include entry to the event, brunch and the gala prize giving dinner. Specials on accommodation at the 5 star Walkersons Hotel and Spa are also available.
