I believe I owe it to the SA music scene to mention the opening act of this past Wednesdays performance at Kirstenbosch.
Toya Delazy, most know for numbers such as “Pump It On”, “Forbidden Fruit” and “My City”, surprised me with a truly South African flavour, International sound and bountiful talent. It’s easy to see why she has been nominated for a couple of awards – locally and abroad (namely the BET Award for Best International Act: Africa).
Expecting nothing short of what I’ve heard on the radio – boldly produced dance numbers, with really good vocals – I was certainly impressed with how entertaining, energetic and over-all superb Delazy was live.
Complete with backup dancers, the stage presence of a young African Skunk Anansie and an amazing live band to back her, Delazy sure has moved close to the top of my list of SA must-see’s at a music festival.
