PEACHY KEEN is a five piece band from Cape Town that performs a feel-good blend of Rock-a-billy, Pop Rock, Swing, a pinch of Punk Rock and a dash of Soulful Jazz. The band started in early 2010 when long time friends Dom and Lex joined forces to create a band that would echo the definitive decade for Rock ‘n Roll; the 50’s. They don’t take themselves too seriously but are serious about putting on an energetic show that will suck you in, no matter where or who attends. In short, PEACHY KEENwill make you want to dance, even if you can not walk!
They have been spreading their love all over, having toured Durban, the KZN South Coast and Johannesburg once each. In 2011 the band played at 6 of the country’s most prestigious outdoor music festivals, ending the year as the last band to play before the countdown in front of a couple thousand people at Rock The River music festival, a career highlight thus far. They have also appeared on SABC’s ‘Hectic Nine 9’ and ‘Expresso’ and on the pages of such publications such as The Daily News, South Coast Fever, The Cape Times (Entertainment Supplement Cover), FHM, the LMG (Cover) and Urban Edge Magazine.
PEACHY KEEN recently launched their first music video, for their single SHOT A MAN DOWN, to music lovers worldwide on YouTube and to a select few at a release party held at the Obz Cafe? in Cape Town. Written in April 2010 by founding members, Alex Wise and Dominique Otto, the video for SHOT A MAN DOWN was directed by Ian “Bean” Morgan from Tin Toy Films in Cape Town in Winter 2011.
“The song is about a woman’s revenge. It’s written in a tongue and cheek manner but has the femme fatal aspect to it. It’s basically about a man who cheats on his girl and she takes the law into her own hands and goes on a Thelma and Louise mission.”
The concept of the video demonstrates two girls who decide to teach a man with a wandering eye a lesson. They seductively taunt and tease him throughout the video, be it through the sassy live band performance scene, or with cutthroat knives in the barber shop scene. The end result is a man held hostage by two feisty blondes with a taste for revenge.
PEACHY KEEN has also released SHOT A MAN DOWN to radio stations nationwide for play listing. PEACHY KEEN’s debut release was recorded and produced by none other than world renowned song writer, producer, composer and Grammy Nominee – Cedric Samson at his TreeHouse Studios in the picturesque Republic of Hout Bay. PEACHY KEEN will now be joining a list of renowned international and local artists such as Arno Carstens, Miriam Makeba, Kahn Morbee (The Parlotones), Die Heuwels Fantasties, Johnny Clegg and Loyiso who have also worked with Mr Samson.
“We are very excited and honoured to be working with Cedric. He sees a lot of potential in PEACHY KEEN and is equally excited to start working with us.”
SHOT A MAN DOWN features the signature energetic music which PEACHY KEEN creates – honest, accessible and catchy. Along with its unique ‘call-and-answer’ harmonies, slide guitar solos and upbeat tempo, it is a truly fresh sound out of this country rooted firmly in classic Rock ‘n Roll.
“We believe in paying homage to where rock ‘n roll came from – a sound that wasn’t over complicated or overproduced. You can hear our passion in that song.”
