Recently we had the pleasure of staying at Teremok Marine in Umhlanga Rocks for a night.
Along the tropical coast-line of KwaZulu-Natal, nestled amongst lush, green palm and Milkwood trees, lies this luxurious 5 Star boutique lodge with 8 rooms available for booking. Each room unique in design, where comfort meets luxury – offering a home away from home feel.
The staff are nothing short of friendly and welcoming. Even though we were very early- in fact hours away from our check in time- they went out of their way to welcome us. Offering drinks and a swim in the pool while we waited for our room to be turned. We happily obliged, since the Sunny weather was perfect for a swim.
They called us to our room once it was ready and we were given the grand tour.
All the usual amenities are available: white gown, toiletries etc. but what I thought was really special is that you can make use of branded flip-flops, beach bag and beach towels during your stay. They are also within walking distance from the beach and about 1km away from restaurants and shops.
The lounge area is host to an array of board games, books, as well as an honesty bar with everything you need. There is also 1 of 2 coffee machines in the lounge area. The other is in the kitchen to make use of as you wish and freshly baked muffins are always available, should you ever be peckish.
From 6-7pm complimentary sherry or port is available for evening sipping. There is also a spa and gym available on the premises.
The Lodge does not offer dinner service however, should you wish to go and enjoy dinner in the village, they offer a complimentary shuttle service. They are always on call to drop or collect you after you’re done. The staff can also arrange your dinner booking, should you need them to.
Breakfast is served in the dining area from 8am-10am on Weekends, so one is able to sleep in. There is a delightful array of muffins, homemade muesli, yoghurt and fruit available as well a hot breakfast of your choosing.
After my coffee, I indulged in the omelette with cheese, mushrooms and tomato as well as freshly squeezed OJ.
Built in 1968, the house that is now fondly knows as “Teremok” – the name it was given by its original Russian owner which translates to “little hideaway”, certainly lives up to this title. Over-all Teremok has a wonderful atmosphere and if you are ever in the sea-side of Umhlanga, it’s a must for a night or two.
