With August being Women’s Month, Hot on Top will be showcasing our first ever ‘FEMME’ events with all female lineups. The FEMME tour is set to touch down in Cape Town on the 12th August at The Grand, and in Johannesburg on the 5th of August at Randlords.
A closer look at the facts shows us how men outnumber women in the music industry. In 2016, Ultra Music Festival Miami featured only 20 female artists, with 198 male acts making up the remainder of the lineup. This year, Creamfields has just 11 all-female DJ acts in a weekend of 230.
The Telegraph’s study of Britain’s Top Six Festivals (including Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds festivals) concluded that all-female bands made up just 3.5%, and solo acts just 16% of line-ups in this upcoming summer.

We are proud to share some of our best local female talents with you, and their sounds are sure to have you grooving through the afternoon and raving throughout the night.
Women always account for more than half of our pre-sold tickets. They are therefore the influencers that ultimately create the atmosphere we have come to love on our dance-floors! To show our appreciation to the female fans that have supported us on our journey, women will receive discounts on their FEMME Tour tickets.
Not only will we be celebrating women in the music industry and dancing for change, we will also be giving back to our community. We have chosen to support the “Lalela – Art is Power” charity with a workshop focusing on woman-empowerment and entrepreneurship, inspiring the youth of our future to not feel limited by their gender and underprivileged backgrounds. Those who donate will be entered into a draw to win a R1000 bar tab! Being femme is about breaking away from stereotypes and assumptions made about gender. It’s about subverting the expectations that women face purely for being women.
