Adele Lucas Promotions, organiser of the Soweto Festival Expo, has secured internationally renowned djing duo Goldfish, which will join the line-up of top artists set to rock Soweto on Heritage Day weekend. They will perform on Saturday 24 September at 19h00 at the Expo Centre Johannesburg at Nasrec.
The Cape Town-based duo are taking the dance world by storm and first burst onto the international scene when international dance brand Pacha signed them to create an album for their Perceptions of Pacha series. On the album, Goldfish captured the carefree vibe of the magical island of Ibiza. Their numerous awards, platinum sales in South Africa and a top 10 on the US iTunes Dance Charts firmly cemented their reputation as the guys to watch.
In 2008, the duo was nominated for a record-breaking eight nominations at the South African Music Awards and this year won two of the coveted awards, including Best Global Dance Album.
Their shows from Miami to Moscow and from the Sydney Opera House to Sao Paulo have been sold out. “Ask any band from SA who starts touring internationally and you’ll hear the same thing – it’s simply another level,” says half of Goldfish, David Poole, on the differences between the local and international scenes. “You really do learn a lot very quickly. It’s made us stronger, fitter and hungrier than if we were just playing to local audiences. Having said that, the best thing about local audiences is their absolute die-hard support for us and that is what keeps us going when we’re out there in the trenches,”
Other half Dominic Peters says, “We’re super excited to be playing the Soweto Festival. It’s been a while since we’ve played a gig in Soweto and we’re looking forward to checking out the other great artists on the bill.”
The Soweto Festival Expo is now in its seventh year. The popular event runs over the weekend of Heritage Day from 23 to 25 September from 10h00 to 18h00, with entertainment from 10h00 until 21h00.
