The unique cafe’s origins can be traced back to the Atlantic Coast of France, being that it’s a sister restaurant to La Grosse Boite, a board games café in the historical town of La Rochelle. The Cape Town version opened on St. John Street in June 2015 and is owned by Eric and his wife, Emilie.
There are over 150 options in the collection (including card, wooden, strategy, family) of games. The Big Box Café also boasts a selection of French culinary delights from croissants (with a Nutella filling, YUM!), quiches, soups, toasted sandwiches and, of course, Tribe coffee.
Playing a game at The Big Box is free and if you like you can purchase games too, which range between R99 and R1000.
