World-class light festival set to transform the Company’s Garden from April 9 –12. LUMENOCITY launched to the media last night with a sneak peek at what’s to come.

For four nights, the historic gardens will transform into a spectacular, walkable world of light, art and immersive installations – bringing together a curated collective of South African artists, designers and creative studios in one of the city’s most iconic spaces.

From towering, illuminated sculptures and kaleidoscopic structures to projection-mapped artworks and interactive light environments, Lumenocity invites visitors to step into a fully immersive nighttime experience – reimagining how the city is seen, felt and explored after dark. Food trucks and hospitality will also be on hand for nighttime bites and sips.

Presented in partnership with Kfm and driven by MINI, Lumenocity forms part of a growing global movement of light festivals redefining how cities engage with art, tourism and public space – while positioning Cape Town as a destination for immersive cultural experiences. Safety and accessibility have been central to the event’s planning, with the City of Cape Town working closely with organisers to ensure a secure and well-managed experience.

Visitors will encounter a series of immersive artworks including:

  • Yay Abe – a signature projection artwork exploring motion, rhythm and light
  • ThingKing – a hanging installation at the intersection of art and technology
  • Magpie Collective – an interactive light environment visitors can step into
  • Water Dixon – a large-scale architectural lighting installation
  • Walter Ritson & Brad Baard – walk-through sculptural light structures
