The global doughnut icon, which in May signed a development agreement with local company Krispy Kreme Doughnuts South Africa (Pty) Ltd to open 31 Krispy Kreme shops in South Africa over the next five years, has announced that the first store will be opened in Rosebank, Johannesburg at a location yet to be disclosed. This marks the company’s first venture into Africa.

People visiting the store will have an option of 16 decadent Krispy Kreme doughnuts, as well as a wide variety of locally roasted coffee flavours to treat themselves to.

Gerry Thomas, CEO of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts South Africa said, “We are delighted to bring the joy of Krispy Kreme doughnuts to the City of Gold. We have found the perfect spot for our first store and will announce its exact location closer to the opening.

Krispy Kreme has been serving its customers with a unique blend of doughnut and coffee flavours since 1937.

Currently, Krispy Kreme’s Original Glazed doughnuts, great tasting coffee and other assorted sweet treats can be found in more than 1 000 shops in 24 countries.

“The city of Johannesburg is widely considered the window into the African market and is a melting pot of cultures, races as well as nationalities. It was only natural than that Africa’s economic hub be chosen as the first home for the first ever Krispy Kreme store in Africa,” says Thomas.
