Recently we had the opportunity to visit the Cape Summer Villa Collection’s distinctive Spanish Farm Guest Lodge, situated on a four-hectare estate in Somerset West set along the Helderberg Mountains, with views that are simply breathtaking.

We stayed in the secluded self-catering Rose Cottage – a completely unique setting where the living area is separated from the bedroom and bathroom. Picture a modern kitchen and living room within a glass atrium, surrounded by lush greenery and the sounds of abundant bird species including gorgeous green suikerbekkie’s. A lush courtyard divides the bedroom with a king-size poster bed and en-suite bathroom. A stairway also takes you up to a private sundeck with a Jacuzzi and views of the Helderberg Mountain. There is a lower deck, also with stunning views, where one is able to braai and enjoy a glass of wine while bird watching or playing boardgames. Discover the rest of the property and take in the views on the hiking path which leads to a lookout deck and tapers through lush greenery and fynbos.

Other accommodation on the property includes luxury air-conditioned guesthouse bedrooms and 5-star self-catering villas with lush indigenous gardens, stunning scenery and panoramic views of False Bay and the surrounding mountains. There are private nature pools with wooden decks for guests to sunbathe in privacy and an expansive terrace overlooking the ocean – perfect for al fresco dining or enjoying a sundowner.

Positioned in the upper part of the estate, is a guest pool with sun loungers – perfect to enjoy the magnificent views. There is also a sauna for use of guests. Enjoy a hearty breakfast at the guesthouse by arrangement or order some wine for enjoyment by the pool. A mobile massage treatment can also be arranged by the team.

Spanish Farm is the ideal base from which to explore the beauty of the Western Cape. Major attractions in the nearby vicinity include South Africa’s most famous wine routes. Stellenbosch is a mere 10 minute drive, with Franschhoek and Paarl being only 40 minutes away. Or set off on safari to nearby game lodges in the Klein Karoo area, or shark cage dive in Gansbaai. World class golf courses, shopping centres, beautiful beaches and excellent restaurants surround the area as well. Spanish Farm is a 20 minute drive from the Cape Town International Airport, and only a 40 minute drive from Cape Town and the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, Robben Island and Table Mountain.

A special slice of paradise that we can’t wait to visit again, Spanish Farm offers true serenity coupled with warm South African hospitality.  It’s no wonder why Spanish Farm Guest Lodge is the recipient of the HotelsCombined’s 2020 Recognition of Excellence Award for consistently achieving the highest standards of customer satisfaction worldwide.
