Cape Town is full of surprises, especially when it comes to the creatives it harbours. We’re about to share one such imaginative and inspired jewel with you.

Laura Windvogel is the lovely face behind Dear Dorothy, a vintage-inspired line of clothing and accessories.

It started in December 2009 as a way for Windgovel to catch up with friends, enjoy a few glasses of wine and make some money off of her extensive collection of vintage clothing. She would source the pieces during the week and host a monthly sale. The trend of rejuvenating old clothes grew and Windgovel decided to spread her wings. She got the help of a patternmaker and seamstress with “the patience of saints” as she puts it.

Dear Dorothy, as it is known today, was born and the History of Art Major was now a fully-fledged designer and dressmaker. Windgovel sells her clothing and handmade hair accessories at various markets around Cape Town and stocks the online platform Spence as well as Sitting Pretty (111 Long Street).

Windgovel aims to place her clothes in more stores by summer time and values the creative experience of collaborating with others. Her end goal is to create, collaborate and share her inspiration.

Dear Dorothy and YCLAD Magazine are offering one lucky reader an exciting giveaway. Up for grabs is one of Windvogel’s stunning creations; a Dear Dorothy dress from the Summer 2011 collection as well as a custom-made hair-bow (winner gets to choose their fabric).
