In the wake of their catalytical music video release for Parkiebank, herfs 2017, FOKOFPOLISIEKAR is back with something very special.  The band is proud to premiere the music video for Komma, only the third ballad that Fokofpolisiekar has ever written.

Komma is a departure from the band’s usual sound.  For the first time the sound is completely stripped down to just a piano and Francois van Coke’s voice.

This song is often singled out as a favourite on Fokofpolisiekar’s latest album, Selfmedikasie, but it’s not common knowledge that it came close to never being written.  The band, at first, only intended to produce 10 songs for the album, but during the recording period Johnny de Ridder sat down behind the piano and Komma was born.

Wynand Myburgh tells how Komma came to be:

‘’We were finishing off the writing of Selfmedikasie and we had no intention of throwing a ballad into the mix. One day Johnny played a melody on the piano and that sparked the beginning of what would become Komma. Hunter started working on lyrics and at the end of the recording session a day was set aside to finish off the rough ideas for this piano-driven track. We were not too worried and if things did not come together that day, we were going to leave it be. Somehow it worked out and Komma came to life. I think we are all happy about how it turned out and how spontaneous it happened. Sometimes those are the gems.’’

To film the video, the band took to the breathtaking setting of Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens in Cape Town, echoing the song’s beauty.  Fokofpolisiekar’s show formed part of the 2018 Summer Concert series. The band has not been part of this concert series since February 2014 and saw this as the perfect opportunity and place to capture their current vibe and following.

The music video clearly illustrates the effect Komma has on people.
