Introducing SKIP&DIE:
SKIP&DIE is a pan-tropical future bass band from The Netherlands. Their enigmatic lead singer, Cata.Pirata, hails from Johannesburg, South Africa. She is looking forward to ‘wow’ her mother land’s audiences with her band’s spectacular and unique live shows later this year. Their colourful live performances and world music sound sets them apart from anything South Africa’s stages have experienced.
Watch them perform live at Paradiso in Amsterdam below:
The live band has grown into a tight and vibrant group featuring Jori Collignon (percussion, synths), Daniel Rose (sitar, guitar, saz), Gino Bombrini (percussion) and Cata.Pirata’s vocals and phenomenal stage presence. Thanks to the group’s relentless energy, SKIP&DIE was the highlight of the famous French festival Les Transmusicales de Rennes in December 2012 and went on to conquer the biggest stages and festivals in Europe: Eurosonic, The Great Escape, Les Femmes s’en mêlent, Le Printemps de Bourges, Where The Wild Things Are, Amsterdam Dance Event, Art Rock and Europavox, to name but a few. Summer 2013 festivals included Sonar (ES), Solidays and Vieilles Charrues (FR), Parkpop (NL), Paléo (CH), Pohoda (SK), Esperanzah & Les Ardentes (BE), Sziget (HU) and many more.
The past – Riots in the Jungle
SKIP&DIE’s debut album Riots in the Jungle was written by Cata.Pirata and Jori while they travelled through South Africa – Soweto, Johannesburg, Cape Town and Gugulethu, collaborating along the way with some of SA’s most inspiring music makers on the rise.
The future – Cosmic Serpents
SKIP&DIE has just released an exhilarating second album Cosmic Serpents – luring their audiences into a landscape somewhere between paradise, the apocalypse and beyond.
The album was written and recorded in Brazil, Egypt, Argentina, Colombia, La Reunion Island, South Africa, Portugal and the Netherlands. It incorporates a rich variety of musical styles (from digital cumbia, creole maloya, brazilian rasterinha and electro chaabi – to dub, footwork and psychedelic rock) which have been inventively merged into an intimately layered SKIP&DIE universe.
The SKIP&DIE album, Cosmic Serpents, is now available on iTunes
