We recently had the pleasure of experiencing nature in a unique setting by staying in one of the luxury treehouses at Vindoux Guest Farm, in Tulbagh.
The secluded treehouse set amongst lush trees, overlooking the game camp, allowed us to soak up the sounds of birdlife while taking in the views of the wildlife, fruit trees and the majestic mountains while relaxing in bed. It’s the ultimate winter escape if all you want to do is relax, snuggle up under a fluffy duvet and take in the sights and sounds of nature.
The treehouses sleep two with a queen-sized bed and are individually styled to include an en-suite bathroom with large spa bath, high quality bed linen, fluffy robes, bar fridge and tea and coffee-making facilities. They also offer the option to book the “romantic turndown service”, which includes flower petals on your bed, a bottle of Krone MCC and chocolates. They ultimate romantic retreat!
Breakfast can be served directly to your treehouse, in bed. Alternatively, enjoy it on the deck, while watching springbok and zebra grazing below. The guest farm also has a farm kitchen & shop. A braai-basket is provided in your room (including tongs, salt & pepper, plates etc) should you wish to make use of the braai facilities. Each tree house has its own private braai area, complete with wood and grid. Meat, salads and bread can be purchased from the farm kitchen. Alternatively they offer gourmet picnics and cheese boards upon request, so why not take the opportunity to enjoy a romantic meal under the stars from your treehouse?
The morning after a much needed, restful sleep and a delicious breakfast enjoyed overlooking the wildlife grazing the dewy grass, we headed to the Vindoux Spa for a “starlit” hot tub session, while sipping a glass of bubbly. This was followed by a full body brush and deep tissue massage – those ladies sure worked their magic on us.
Though we didn’t get to experience it this time, the guest farm offers some other unique activities such wine-by-bike and pop up gin tastings on Saturdays. The guest farm also has a sparkling blue pool with loungers – perfect for relaxing with a good book in Summer.

You can hire bikes from Vindoux Guest Farm to go on self guided leisure rides to the neighbouring wineries and olive farms or simply enjoy the scenery. The farm will supply you with a bottle of water, cycling helmet, Tulbagh map and the rest is up to you. Head off and explore the neighbouring farms such as Saronsberg, Twee Jonge Gezellen (Krone), Oude Compagnies Post, Montpellier, and Oakhurst Olives! Prices range from R250-R300. Self-catering cottages start at R950 per night, luxury treehouse accommodation starts from R1950 per night including breakfast, and the deluxe self-catering tree lodge starts at R2400.
