SOUTHERN YURTS is situated on the beautiful Porcupine Hills Guest Farm, near Botrivier – a mere 1,5 hours (100km) from Cape Town. The Yurts offer a perfect glamping experience to suit a full range of getaway requirements – whether you’re looking for a midweek breakaway, a secluded, romantic trip for an anniversary; or a full retreat into nature with family and friends set in picturesque nature – all of their accommodation aims to please.
Porcupine Hills Guest Farm is home to both a small olive growing operation and a nature conservancy. Guests staying at Yurt accommodation are situated in the conservancy and have full access to the farm with a range of activities, including marked and mapped hiking trails, trail running, bird watching (bird books and binoculars provided), and a small farm dam with a kayak.
Fishing (catch and release) is also available at the farm dam and fishing rods and gear can be rented by prior arrangement. If you’d like to explore the surrounding area activities such as wine tasting, zip-lining, horse-riding, farmer’s markets, small restaurants and more, are all within a 30 minute drive.
They offer three different yurt accommodations. The Forest View Yurt sleeps two in a secluded destination – perfect for couples. While the Yurt Camp consists of two visually separated and independent sites, each sleeping 2 – 4 guests in 2 incredible yurts: Kestrel (in which we stayed) and Malachite. Southern Yurts prioritises the balance between product functionality and customer comfort. They have taken great care with each step of the manufacturing and design process to ensure that Yurts and accommodation are of extreme quality. When you step inside the Yurts, the attention to detail does not go unnoticed.
All three sites offer wood fired hot tubs, spectacular scenery, a fully equipped kitchen, indoor-outdoor shower experience and a braai. The yurts are self catering but they provide luxurious olive oil, made with olives on the farm, as well as tea, coffee, salt and pepper. For those wanting to braai or soak in the wood-fired tub, wood is provided but extra can be purchased for R50 per crate. Food baskets can also be pre-arranged.
