Wolfkop Weekender celebrates its sixth year of intimate electronic music festivals with headliner Pional from Spain.

January brings the first summer month of the new decade, and there’s no better place to dance yourself well into the new year than at Lilo River Flow 2020. Taking place from 16 – 20 January, the festival offers 4 days and 4 nights of luscious camping in nature to a highly curated, and danceable, electronic soundtrack.

THE MUSIC

Lilo River Flow 2020 is Wolfkop’s sixth flagship summer soirée, and since inception in 2014, the January 2020 headliner has been at the top of a very long hit list.

Madrid native, Pional takes pole position, and carries the festival from daylight through twilight and into the dark of night on Saturday. He is sandwiched between two South African stars who have been taking Europe, and indeed the world, by storm: Thor Rixon headlines the live session on Saturday afternoon and Floyd Lavine takes the stage at midnight right after.

There are thirteen debutants joining the lineup in January, from all corners of South Africa as well as James Kameran who is a resident of Ibiza and has found a way to capture the original sound of the island more than anyone we’ve heard, and Antwerp-based Lola Haro, who in a very short career has seen herself sharing the stage by invitation with the likes of Motor City Drum Ensemble, DJ Koze and most recently, Peggy Gou.

All this with a meandering collage of locals that will make sure your ears are in tears of joy from Thursday (our scene-setting party in the boma) till very late on Sunday (our last legs after party in the boma).

THE CAMPING

There are various camping options across three different campsites; Berry Fields, Golden Valley and Lost Valley and the top tier is Lush Camping in Berry Fields, which offers lushly appointed bell tent. Wolfkop have also added luxurious floating jetties, which can be privately booked, providing shade and a perch from which to watch the festival unfold. Explore the ticket options in more detail here.

THE FESTIVAL

The festival offers a selection of outdoor and wellness activities, including a 2km walking trail, yoga sessions in the morning, sound journey meditation, kayaking and swimming, and the traditional High Tea, which pops up near the dancefloor on Saturday.

Alongside a selection of the city’s most delicious food vendors, there will be a handful of market stalls and a spa offering various forms of massage. And if you seek, you shall find The Mirage; a curated chill space serving plant-based food and healing herbal teas.

It goes without saying, a fully-stocked bar will be keeping everyone cool; with gin and beer on tap, wine and bubbles and the usual spirits and mixers – it’s encouraged to bring your own receptacle to minimise plastic waste. Look out for The Loose Caboose, a popup rum bar serving Copeland Rum.
