Shorts are no longer reserved for summer! The trend has become season-less and a great, sexier alternative to the miniskirt and, even, pants. They’re more comfortable, give ease of movement and, with no fear of panty exposure, are even more modest than a mini. They are also a great way to expand your winter wardrobe – allowing you to stand out from the crowd.

Shorts, in winter, are a fun and fresh style to try on for size. All you need know is, how to wear them in the cooler months. Opaque or sweater tights are a must underneath – to keep you warm. As a general rule, tights should be in the same colour as your shorts to elongate the leg, also try to match your tights and top with a statement short in a different colour. You can play with prints and textures but stay away from ribbed tights unless you are a ‘skeleton’. Keep your outfit simple and monochromatic if you want to wear a leopard tight.

Winter shorts can be found at various lengths and in heavier fabrics from wool, for day, to velvet and sequined, for night. And the higher the waist, the shorter they can be. When worn correctly they can look stunning on almost all body types.

Looser fits are the easiest to wear at any length while lower rise shorts are best just above the knee. It’s actually easier to wear shorts when it’s colder, since you are, most likely, wearing tights and don’t need to worry about shaving everyday or showing off your ‘pasty’ white legs.

Layered looks, with over-the-knee socks and boots are also a great way to keep you warm but try to keep these in the same colour family. Add a long coat over the top for extra warmth and your good to go rocking this trend.
