The second Pink Polo event, in association with Blackberry and South Africa’s premier lifestyle, wine and polo estate Val de Vie, was held this past Saturday and YCLAD was fortunate enough to secure an invite.
The glamorous affair is an exciting mix of fashion, socialising, polo and delectable eats. Edith Venter and Blackberry, in support of Reach for Recovery, sponsored the event. To show support for the cause of woman’s wellness and the fight against breast cancer the ladies and gentlemen in attendance all went to exceptional links to tie in with the Polo Chic dress code: shoes and shades.
We were all treated to a magical table of Alice in Wonderland-esque treats including giant bowls of colourful macaroons, beautifully-crafted strawberry cheesecakes, decadent chocolate cake, a rosewater profiterole tower and other sweet things. For those that preferred savoury eats the cucumber and cream cheese sandwiches, delectable vegetable pies, sticky chicken pieces and other snacks more than sufficed. Floating around in giant silver goblets were perfectly chilled bottles of Val de Vie wine and bottled water for those looking to quench a certain kind of thirst.
Once seated a medley of long-legged goddess-like models took to the makeshift ramp and showcased some of designer Kobus Dippenaar’s latest pieces. His range is an exciting juxtaposition of bold, brash colours and fabrics intermingled amongst soft, feminine, flowing garments. The showstopper had to be the elegant and bashful Russian wolfhound, who accompanied one of the models in matching colours (white and pink).
Edith Venter, event organiser, promised “a wonderful day filled with fabulous entertainment, South Africa’s favourite celebrities, prizes and goody bags” and boy did she deliver. There was no end to the fashionistas donning striking suits, slick shades, hot heels and sumptuous dresses.
After the fashion show everyone enjoyed a fast-paced, heart-racing polo match. The jockeys and their horses vying for top spot as the aptly pink ball was thrashed around the playing field.
It was a fantastically opulent and decadent affair all for a great cause. Lucky draws saw attendees winning prizes like Issey Miyake bottled water and an auction procured R13 500 for the cause. Stunning outfits, the perfect weather and lots of pink – all in all a pretty fantastic fundraiser.
